Edited to clarify charges

Home again. I was going to try and type up the full rundown on the trial, but my brain is just Not Up To It right now. I'll see about getting that up tomorrow.

And once it's up, I remind everyone that the information is a matter of public record, and the victim's name is the only one I won't use. And the internet is big. And that if any of you want to post anywhere or everywhere you feel like it that Paul Alexander Montgomery III was found guilty of 9 counts of rape of a child, or that he was also known online as Ebon Unicorn or Darken Sorcia or Drkn or so on . . . .

Well, let's just say that Cub said to go ahead and spread the word far and wide when I asked her if it was okay to drop this on the internet.

Lovely thing, public record.

Lovely thing, if he ever *does* get out of prison (/me is hoping for a really long sentence or 9, set to run consecutively rather than concurrently, but that's probably optimistic of me), he'll have to register as a sex offender... and can get arrested and jailed again if he doesn't.

And the Internet is indeed a big place.

It's my current understanding that in TN, the minimum is 25 years for each count of rape of a child, and at 9 counts that makes 225 years. Since it is a Class A felony against a child, there is no early bird free card, and it's highly unlikely that the sentences will be concurrent. Even if the inmates don't get him first, it's not likely he'll breathe free air ever again. Even with a third of the time served in the unlikely event that he gets paroled, he'll be 115 years old. And that's using the minimum. The sentencing guidelines are 25 years to life for each count.

Not that I'm complaining.

Cub is a very wise young woman. I think you had something to do with that.

Healing Thoughts™ going to the girls, Warin and you guys. It has been a rough and rocky road, but you all travelled well.

He should have an "interesting" time in prison. They do not like child rapists. He may not live through it.

The idea of him being killed like an animal in his cell makes my lil heart go pitter-patter. *evil grin*

I note that the news article on the subject declines to make clear the relationship between the female "family member" called as a witness for the defense and with the victim in the case.

If they name the mother, then they can find the minor child whose name it's illegal to publish. *sigh*

Woah.

Are you telling me that the victim's MOTHER took the defense's side?

Indeed.

The rapist is the current legal step-father of the victim.

The victim's legal mother initially said she believed the victim, but then started trying to push the hard sell of her daughter being extremely mentally unstable and manipulative to the state. The state actually had the victim examined, iirc, and did not find evidence of what the legal mother was claiming. (The state also had every adult associated screened. I'd love, love to see what some of those other evals came back saying.)

It was a case of the mother throwing her own daughter under the bus, so to say.

Dual betrayal. OUCH.

I hope the girl has a good support system and I'm glad she's gotten *some* justice.

Yes.
We've tried to make sure she has as much support as we can give her.

I'd pay good money to get my hands on her and scumbag's psych evals.

Unfortunately, yes. Not only did she take her husband's side but actively tried to make her daughter out to be a liar. The main consolation is her testimony has very likely lost her every legal right to any of her children at this point.

Warm thoughts, prayers in a very strange language, vibes to you guys.

Before Anne Bishop there were others, and more will undoubtedly come. I, unfortunately, was the one who introduced that particular book series to the craziness. >.<
