We're here (and typing this from the library). House is solidly built, but an utter mess . . . and that's *after* 4 days of cleaning and hauling shit out of it. Kitchen, bathroom, hallway, and two bedrooms all need floor covering. In the case of the first two, they need old linoleum to be removed first. For the rest, it's just naked subflooring right now.

Most of what needs to be done insde the house is hauling what's inside to either the dump or Goodwill. After that, it's the floors and some drywall in places. Locks have already been changed. A dehumidifier in the bathroom will likely save us a whole lot of grief in the future. Found some of Louis' first girlfriends' things in one of the dressers. Kinda creeped out that his dad kept them. Once the kitchen is clean, will love it; huge. We're turning what used to be the living room into our bedroom since the king sized bed won't fit anywhere else.

*Lots* of crap in the yard. Old appliances, tires, fencing, gym equipment. Found a treasure trove of good floor tiles and granite counter top surfacing. Lots of stuff outside that will get repurposed into gardening. Lots more that I hope we can get someone to haul off.

House looks exactly like what it is: Solid home that was in the middle of being seriously remodeled when the only person working on it had massive health crisis. having met Louis' dad, I agree with Louis: His dad has resigned himself to never living in that house again. He's still recovering from the stroke, 2 years later. Suspect his grandmother is glad of someone to take care of. Been eating breakfast down at his grandparent's house every day we've been here. Suspect his grandmother would come up the hill after us if we missed a day. She's lonely. Only members of hers or her husband's family that she has any contact with anymore are Louis' dad, Louis, and me.

Strongly suspect that hillside (they own 50-ish acres . . . never thought I'd be doing *that* again) getting left to Louis. He's the only family that's kept in anyu kind of contact with them, and the only one showing any intrest in/love for the land. Not the reason why we're doing this, of course. Glad that Louis is getting to spend time with grandparents. Not sure how much longer they have, really. Glad their last years won't be lonely.

Hillside is beautiful. Heavily wooded. Looking at the leaf litter, think it's reasonably old growth in places. Birch, pine, think some oak. Louis says he never thought he'd be coming back here again. Says he's been missing it for a while; never really realized it. Think I'm already half in love with the area.

Good news: 'Now Hiring' signs and billboards *everwhere*. Lots of new construction in the area. This area has 4%ish unemployment rate. Job hunt starting in April. Hope to have the house in better shape by then.

Cell phone reception up at the house is spotty. Leave message if we don't answer; we'll get back as soon as we can.

Welcome back and good to hear decent news from someone on my f-list.

When you get to a point where you can, pictures would be lovely.

It sounds like you are in a place where you have a purpose and are welcome. This is good. ♥hugs♥

pictures would be lovely.

*snort* Let me assure you, they wouldn't be. =) Oh my gods but there's some garbage at that place! Dust, laundry, thingamabobs and whatsits, construction materials, chemical containers, DIY furniture ... so much to clean up! But after a few months of work, Omi's garden and the inside of the house should be quite nice. =)

Having spent the last two months rehabbing a 30 year old mobile home, I can seriously relate to the whole 'work in progress' thing. Grats on things being salvageable, love. It's long overdue that you get a good break.
