Smoke took a running jump at the front storm door yesterday. He hit the handle dead-on with both front paws. If he'd been just a little heavier, or if the door hadn't been mostly frozen shut, he'dve gotten it open. -sigh- It's not like they don't have a perfectly fine cat door!
I have this feeling that I'm going to enter the kitchen one morning to find the kittens opening a can of tuna with a jury-rigged can-opener, specially designed for use by paws.
On top of Smoke trying to get the door open, we discovered that Phooka can climb. Layout of living room first here: We have windows that go from almost the ceiling to about a foot and a half off the floor. We have the cat door set in one of the LR windows so the cats can go from the front porch straight through the cat door. In front of this window we have an end table. The surface of the table is exactly even with the bottom of the cat door.
Phooka has been looking this arrangement over for a while now. She finally worked it out yesterday. She pulled one of the empty laundry baskets over to right up against the table, and turned it upside down. She then got the box that was in the room, turned it upside down, and pushed it against the laundry basket.
She then preceded to climb the box, then the basket, and then onto the table. Once she was on the table, she stopped, looked around, stood up, raised her arms straight above her head, and gave us all this really triumphant grin.
Smart children are delightful, whether they wear fur or not. They can also be challenging as all get out.
