At least before I got pregnant, I would have period cramps bad enough that someone could put their hand on my lower abdomen and feel the cramping, with the bleeding going through a good 5-6 of the heavy overnight pads the first day. After that, it would ease back into a much more 'normal' range.
I'm not sure if it's something I get from my mom or not, as puberty didn't really hit her until fairly late (17 before hormonal changes and periods started) and they hit with enough pain, blood loss, and other side-effects to be nearly worthy of hospital trips every time.
I think I might looking up whether there's a connection between period severity and IUD pain. After the Percoset wears off, I think, since my brain is starting to fuzz over.
