We had the joy and fun of a power outage yesterday, a few hours after Bear-Cub got home from school. Considering the heat, we wound up fleeing to Columbia for dinner and some of the shopping we needed to do anyway.

But ye gods, when 5 minutes without AC = 3 degree temp raise inside the house? Ouch.

In other news, we are considering acquiring a kitten. Bear-Cub's cat at her mom's house is staying there for a number of reasons, one of them being that introducing an adult cat into the household is something that I'd really rather not do. We have resources for one more cat, and the Cub has expressed much interest. It'll be a while, in any case.

[livejournal.com profile] warinbear is building me a spice rack (squeee!) and bookshelves (deafening sounds of joy) so that we can organize things better. And get all the books on shelves.

And it looks like I'm going to need to go bra shopping again in a few months. The ones I have right now are a tad on the loose side, and I measured in at 38DD a few days ago. This is a slight decrease in band size. Likely, there will be much fitting and checking before I settle on whatever new size I am. Which is not something I am doing in this heat. The lights in changing rooms are hot enough as it is.

Bear-Cub appears to be settling in just fine. Her moodiness has all but vanished, to the point that some of her friends are having trouble recognizing her back. I'm pretty damn glad myself to see her returning to cheerful and generally happy.

Now, if the heat wave would just finish breaking, we'd be just dandy.

The blower on our furnace went out in late May - during the last cold snap - and, since it also runs the A/C unit, we have been without A/C all summer. One of the hottest on record.

Fnas, lots of fans, and lots of ice.

. . . ow? I start to get uncomfortable at around 80. By 90, I'm having trouble breathing and getting ready to melt. No AC this summer sounds horridly, hellishly hideous. You have lots and lots of sympathy. And icy-cool thoughts.

Yes, we are. I did say 'not anytime soon'.

Silly bear needs to pay attention when his Mousie is brining stuff up with him. :P

I'm glad things are going well for you guys and bear cub. I wish I could get my place organized. Right now the living room looks like New Egg.com exploded in it.

If the heat doesn't kill us, the resulting drought just might. The poor plants around here look like an abstract art exhibit on the color brown and how it relates to death.
The air conditioning at my work is weak in the first place and it just can't keep up with this heatwave. Luckily we have fans or I wouldn't be able to work.

I just realized something, though. I went to call you and then remembered you had moved and must have changed phone numbers, because I got one of those lovely messages with the awful screeching beeps telling me that the number was no longer in service.

Is there some way I can get the new number, mew? I need to do some shopping for clothes and the like as well, and would be happy to join you if you want.

YAY! Glad to hear things are turning around for the cub and getting better! Have fun with the clothes shopping, if nothing else the shops should be air-conditioned, too...

At some point as your home has money, you should look for some good windows - triple pane with two chambers of krypton gas (and nothing less!). It'll chop off those rapid temperature increases when the AC is off.

I'm glad the Cub is doing better.

Throw an e-mail to louisadkins@gmail.com I keep forgetting what the new number is; it'll likely be another few months before it sticks.
